Celebration Announcement of the 75th Anniversary of Central Conservatory of Music

In 2015, Central Conservatory of Music is approaching its 75th anniversary. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and heartfelt tribute to the leaders at all levels, alumni and friends from home and abroad who have been offering assistance and support to the construction and development of the Central Conservatory of Music.

The 75th Anniversary of CCOM is a particular historical moment in the school's development. The Celebration Ceremony will be held at November 1st of 2015 on campus of CCOM.

The main predecessor of CCOM is the National Conservatory of Music founded at Chongqing in November 1940. It was merged together with National Academy of Music in Nanjing(including the childhood class), Music Department of the Northeast Lu Hsun Institute of Literature and Art, Music Department of the Literature and Art School of the North China University, Music Department of the National Peiping School of Arts, and China Academy of Music in Shanghai and Hong Kong at Tianjin in 1949. On December 18 of 1949, it was named the Central Conservatory of Music by the Government Administration Council of the Central People's Government. CCOM was ranked among the top national universities in 1960 and was listed as one of the leading universities in the "211 project" in 1999.

The Central Conservatory of Music has very deep historical connections with many famous music and drama troupes, research institutes, and arts conservatories in China. In 1952, the music department of CCOM was moved to Beijing, merged with the dance troupe of Central academy of drama, to form the Central Song and Dance Ensemble (which is the predecessor of Central Symphony Orchestra, Central Song and Dance Ensemble, and China National Orchestra). The music department of Yenching University merged into the Central Song and Dance Ensemble later at the same year. In 1954, the research department of CCOM was expanded into the National Music Research Institute and moved to Beijing. It was named as Chinese Music Research Institute in 1957, which is the predecessor of Music Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Arts. Then, the Middle School affiliated to CCOM was founded in 1957. In 1958, the whole school of Central Conservatory of Music was moved to Beijing from Tianjin. In 1964, part of the faculty members and students were transferred into the new school, China Music Conservatory.

After the joint efforts of the successive leaders and the staff and faculty members, the Central Conservatory of Music has cultivated numerous music talents with international view, innovative spirit, and strong practical ability, and made remarkable achievements. As an institution of single discipline for training high level musical specialists in higher learning, the Central Conservatory of Music has evolved a complete system of pedagogy embracing courses of all levels starting from elementary classes up to postgraduate programs for master and doctoral degrees. It has become a worldwide renowned music conservatory integrating music education, performance, composition, academic research, publishing, and music education in community into a whole. The school has achieved good reputation and made a large influence on the international community during the seventy-five years.

During the anniversary celebration, we sincerely look forward to your presences and to gathering all staff and alumni at home and abroad for his alma mater.
