The 70th Anniversary Celebration of Central Conservatory of Music is on the Horizon

On the morning of October 13th, 2010, the Press Conference of the 70th Anniversary Celebration of CCOM was held at the Recital Hall of Music Practice Building in CCOM. The President Wang Cizhao, the Secretary Guo Shulan, the Vice Presidents Zhou Haihong, Jiang Xiao’ai, Ye Xiaogang, the Deputy Secretary Pang Huanlei, and the President’s Assistant He Cui, were all presented at the Press Conference. The conference was hosted by the Vice President Ye Xiaogang. First of all, the President Wang Cizhao and the Secretary Guo Shulan introduced the preparatory works for the 70th anniversary celebration in detail to the journalists from cultural and internet media in Beijing; then, other CCOM leaders added related information about the celebratory events. There were nearly twenty media, including China Culture, People’s Daily, Music Weekly, Sina, Beijing Youth Daily, CCTV, China Radio International, etc., that attended the conference.

In preparation for the upcoming 70th anniversary celebration of CCOM, the teachers and students of CCOM have begunintensive preparatory works since the November 2009. Following the 70th anniversary theme, the conservatory and all the departments organized nearly hundred magnificent performances, over dozens of academic lectures, and other significant activities in 2010, which fully demonstrated the fruitful achievements of CCOM made in the past seventy years. Yet, the major events of the 70th Anniversary Celebration, highlighting the ceremony, the Chinese-Foreign Conservatory Presidents Forum, and two major celebratory concerts, will be held on November 1st and 2nd, 2010.

The climax of this anniversary celebration will appeared at the ceremony on the morning of November 1st, 2010. On the occasion of the ceremony, all school teachers and students, alumni and friends at home and abroad will gathered at the Concert Hall of CCOM. We can review the school’s ups and downs in the past 70 years, and remembrance our old times on campus. Some Presidents and Deans of top conservatories worldwide will joint with Chinese counterparts to attend the celebration and the Chinese-Foreign Conservatory Presidents’ Forum held on November 2nd, 2010.

In the evenings of November 1st and 2nd, the two celebratory concerts, one Western symphony orchestra & chorale concert and one Chinese traditional instruments ensemble & symphony orchestra concert, will be presented respectively at the Concert Hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts. There are several new compositions, includingFestival Overtures to CCOM, two commission works composed by Chen Yi and Guo Wenjing, the alumni of CCOM which will be premiered in the concerts. The artists participating in the concerts have a strong lineup, including conductors Hu Yongyan, Xia Xiaotang, Chen Lin; Soprano Liping Zhang, Tenor Zhang Jianyi; pianists Ju Jin, Zou Xiang; violinists Xu Weiling, Lv Siqing, Lin Zhaoyang, Chen Xi; pipa-ist Zhang Hongyan, etc. The two concerts mixing the Western culture with Chinese culture displayed the strong strength of the Central Conservatory of Music on music composition and performance of Western orchestra and Chinese traditional instruments. We believe that the excellent compositions and wonderful performances will bring audiences an unforgettable moment.

Besides, other highlights related to the anniversary celebration include special concerts in names of renowned old professors, alumni concert series, academic lectures and symposiums, annually music festivals presented by CCOM, the CCOM history exhibition, and teaching achievements exhibition, etc.

The 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Central Conservatory is not only a birthday ceremony for our alma mater, but also a significant gathering that will bring vitality and regeneration to our beloved alma mater.
