Hosted by the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, marking the conference's first appearance in Asia
In 2025, the International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation (TENOR) will celebrate its 10th edition. For the first time in its history, the conference will be held in Asia—hosted by the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing—signifying China’s growing influence in the global discourse on music artificial intelligence and computational arts.

(In a video message, Professor Li Xiaobing congratulated the successful organization of TENOR2024 and officially announced the beginning of preparations for TENOR2025.)
With the special theme “Cross-disciplinary Integration of Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Music Creation under the Frameworks of Neuroscience and Brain Science,” TENOR2025 will bring together leading scholars and artists from around the world in the fields of computer music composition, AI, computational art, and symbolic music representation. The conference will feature keynote lectures, academic paper presentations, concerts, workshops, and will culminate in the publication of an internationally distributed English-language proceedings volume, showcasing cutting-edge research at the intersection of music and technology.
Since its inception, the TENOR conference has maintained a strong focus on the theoretical and practical development of music notation and representation, with a particular emphasis on how academic research can meaningfully inform and advance creative music practice. In recent years, TENOR’s exploration into the integration of artificial intelligence with music representation has gained increasing recognition from the European Research Council (ERC), which launched the Digital Score research initiative to investigate how emerging computational technologies are reshaping the very foundations of musical inscription.
As the sole Asian partner in this ERC project, the Central Conservatory of Music established the Digital Score Lab, playing an active role in the project and continuously driving deep integration between technology and the arts in this pioneering field.

(Representing Professor Li Xiaobing, Dr. Zhang Yuan officially announced TENOR2025 at the closing ceremony)
At the closing ceremony of TENOR 2024 in Zurich, Switzerland, Dr. Zhang Yuan, a young researcher from CCOM’s Department of Music Artificial Intelligence, officially announced that TENOR2025 would be held in China. Professor Li Xiaobing, Chair of TENOR2025 and Director of the Department, expressed that the upcoming conference will further promote interdisciplinary collaboration across music, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience—sparking new paradigms in future music creation and performance.
The call for papers and artistic works is now officially open. Scholars and artists worldwide are warmly invited to participate and submit their work.
